Shari has been working as a speech-language pathologist since 1994. She specializes in the communication difficulties of adults and children who have neurological damage, developmental disabilities, psychiatric conditions, or autism. She also has experience addressing swallowing impairments.
Shari has completed advanced training in Oral Myofunctional Disorders. Shari is Hanen Certified for the programs "More Than Words", "It Takes Two to Talk", and "TalkAbility." She is also certified in Natural Language Acquisition/Gestalt Language Processing.
Shari also has a passion for working with individuals who have aphasia and cognitive communication impairments following stroke or brain injury.
Her approach to therapy is strengths-based—focusing on abilities, not limitations. Shari works closely with clients and with their families to build communication skills that matter most in everyday life. Involving significant others in treatment helps ensure that progress in therapy translates into meaningful connection and participation at home and in the community.
Shari enjoys doing medical-legal evaluations, and will frequently travel within British Columbia and Alberta. Shari is a Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of British Columbia. She is also on the Registry of Autism Service Providers, with the designation as a speech-language pathologist.
Shari was on the board of directors for Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) from 2020-2023, and served as the Chair of the SAC Board for the 2021-2022 term. After many years of working as a speech-language pathologist in a multitude of settings, Shari has a true appreciation of the value of SLPs. Shari is passionate about sharing her knowledge and advocating for the profession and the clients she provides service to.
Shari provides speech-language pathology services in both English and French.
