Volunteer
Valerie is currently a student majoring in Speech Sciences at the University of British Columbia, hoping to pursue a career in Speech-Language Pathology following her undergraduate degree. She has been a volunteer with ASLP since April 2024, has volunteered with individuals with communication disorders, and she is currently working with children to support the development of their language and social interaction skills.
Valerie is fascinated by language acquisition, speech production and semantics. She loves working with all ages, while she has more extensive experience with younger children to adolescents. She has volunteered and worked with children who are on the autism spectrum and minimally speaking, where she learned the value of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), such as through her volunteer work with PANDA AAC. She has a passion for seeing the beauty of growth in learning with individuals, and aims to bring a fun spirit, care and comfort to the people in her environment.
In her free time, Valerie loves to go for long walks or run (usually followed up by a coffee or hot chocolate), as well as cooking, singing, and spending quality time with family and friends!
